G-SPEED Shuttle XL with ev Series Bay Adapters
We already talked a lot about the mobile part of my overall workflow and how G-Technology’s gear supports it perfectly. And while a big part of my creative passion is spent abroad, under the impact of tough conditions, managing the overall content back home isn’t any less important to sustain a successful career in the long run.
My prior office setup to maintain my content catalogues consisted of a mix of portable hard drives of different manufactures as well as a fully equipped NAS. And while a NAS has its very own advantages, when it comes to reachability from outside and to deliver content to clients, it was quite cumbersome to deal with all the other different storage solutions and still keep everything organised. And one major factor always was missing for me: Speed during editing a batch of high resolution content, like RAW files or 4K footage.
Thankfully, G-Technology offers a great variety of desktop solutions as well, which not only close the circle of the Evolution Series solutions, to make the overall process fluid and transparent, but also holds their promise of delivering high performing tools for the most demanding workflows.
One of their transportable higher-end desktop solutions is the G-SPEED Shuttle XL with ev Series Bay Adapters. It’s an Evolution Series-compatible 8-bay RAID solution with Thunderbolt 3, offering huge capacity and outstanding performance for offloading big batches of data and realising multi-stream 4K, 8K and VR workflows.
From now on, the G-SPEED Shuttle XL with ev Series Bay Adapters is my new workhorse in the office, for editing and maintaining my all my digital content. It delivers transfer rates of up to 1500 MB/s and is designed with two ev series bay adapters for use with ev series compatible drive modules and readers. The inward of the G-Speed Shuttle XL houses six Enterprise-class hard drives to deliver speed and long-term reliability. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 configurations, to keep your content secure in case one or more hard drives fail.
Besides the class leading performance specs, I personally find the Evolution Series compatibility to be one of the most powerful features ever. Instead of dealing with lots of different cables, hard drives and technologies at the same time, I can just slide in the G-DRIVE ev I had with me on a shoot or trip. No cables, no different manufactures and no dealing with confusion. It’s a hassle-free process and my data starts backing up to the G-SPEED Shuttle XL as soon as the G-DRIVE ev clicks into place. Of course, this works the other way around as well, in case I need to take a specific set of content with me on a trip. It always feels like I’m working with the same piece of storage equipment, no matter if I’m in the field or in the office. And the best thing: It’s super fast and reliable at all times.
The G-SPEED Shuttle XL comes with or without ev Series Bay Adapters and features capacities from 24 to 80TB.
